Abstract Information

Tell your colleagues

We invite abstracts containing empirical, theoretical, or descriptive studies relevant to the conference theme. Any contribution reflecting progress or containing new ideas will be considered. However, abstracts may cover any topic in medical and healthcare professions education relating to undergraduate/basic training, postgraduate/specialist training and continuing professional development/continuing medical education. Submitted abstracts might include but not limited to: report of research undertaken; description of a new partnership, new program, course or curriculum that maybe instructive for other participant; innovative solution to an old problem.


Abstracts are welcomed for Short Communications and Poster Presentation


Please structure your abstract as follows:

  • Background
  • Summary of Work
  • Summary of Results
  • Discussion & Conclusions
  • Take-home Messages
  • Word Count: 350 words including sub-headings

If submitting a ‘short communication’, ‘poster’ or ‘either short communication or poster’ abstract you will be given the option to select that your abstract be accepted for one of our theme areas. Once submitted abstracts cannot be edited.



  1. Posters should be a maximum of 95 cm wide and 150 cm high (portrait orientation).
  2. Poster summarizes: the key issues (including the background, aims, method, result and pictures, conclusion, literature references and acknowledgement).
  3. Poster viewing will be held as parallel, themed sessions are included throughout the programme with approximately 6 or 7 presentation for each theme.
  4. Each presentation is 7 minutes followed by 3 minutes questions and answers.
  5. At the end of each session, 15 minutes is allocated for general discussion.
  6. The time allocated for poster mounting is on Monday, 7th of May 2018 from 00 to 13.00. The poster will be available for viewing throughout the conference.
  7. A board will be provided, labeled with the poster number, title and authors.
  8. The poster should be taken down between 16.00-18.00 hrs. on Tuesday, 8th of May 2018.

Short Communications

  1. Short communication is held as parallel, themed sessions are included throughout the programme with approximately 6 or 7 presentation for each theme.
  2. Each presentation is 10 minutes followed by 5 minutes questions and answers.
  3. At the end of each session, 15 minutes is allocated for general discussion.
  4. Presenters should be prepared to present at 30 hrs on Monday, 7th of May 2018. We are unable to give a specific day or time of presentation.
  5. Hand in your Power Point presentation at the Speaker Preview Room on CD or USB device preferably the day before, but a minimum of 2 hours before your presentation (opening times and location indicated in the programme). It will be pre-loaded onto the computer in your presentation room. You should use the computer provided;
  6. It is not possible to use your own computer;
  7. Software used is MS Office. If you design your presentation in any other format you must take your presentation to speaker preview to ensure it will run on the equipment provided.
  8. Go to your presentation room at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the session and introduce yourself to the chairperson;
  9. Think carefully about how you use PowerPoint slides. These should enhance and not detract from your message. Bear in mind that you only have a short time don’t be tempted to try to include too many slides;
  10. Ensure your slides are clear, that there is not too much text to read in the limited time available and that the type is large enough to be legible for those sitting at the back of the room;
  11. Speak slowly and clearly, remembering that for many in your audience English may not be their first language;
  12. Leave sufficient time for a short summary of your point(s) and think about what message you would like to leave the audience with when you finish;
  13. Keep strictly to the time allocated for your presentation. The chairperson will ask you to stop when your time limit has expired.
  14. Be ready to take questions as time permits;
  15. A single page handout giving the key messages from your presentation and your contact details can be useful.
  16. Please write your name and institution as your file name.


We have specifically chosen the theme “Improving the quality of health professions education for the better future of health services” to guide the discussion during the conference into insight and ideas for future use. This theme could translate in any aspects of current medical education as seen from many perspectives. Therefore, we kindly ask you to identify your abstract into one/ more of the following sub themes during submission for the review purpose. The theme and sub themes are applicable for any form of abstract.

  • The submitter of an abstract must also be the presenter;
  • Deadline for submissions is Midnight Indonesia Time – 28th of March 2018;
  • You may list up to 6 authors;
  • Only 1 presenter may be indicated for each abstract;
  • Presenters should be available to present at 15.30 hrs on Monday, 7th of May 2018.  We are unable to take requests for specific presentation days/times;
  • Although you may submit as many abstracts as you wish, it is unlikely that more than ONE presentation per presenter can be accepted due to scheduling complexities;
  • The abstract submitter will be notified of the decision by maximum 23rd of April 2018;
  • The early registration fee applies until 31st of March 2018
  • It is essential that the abstract presenter is registered prior to 30rd of April 2018 (and payment is received within the timeframe stated on the registration site) in order to guarantee inclusion in the programme
